BIRD EDUCATION NETWORK (BEN): BEN was created by the Council for Environmental Education to develop a strong network of bird educational professionals across North America. BEN supports dynamic education methods to advance bird conservation action by connecting and helping bird educators at all levels become more effective. Through cumulative efforts and shared vision, BEN nurtures societal and educational trends towards more effective bird stewardship. A BEN Committee provides advice and guidance for this important initiative to better advance "bird conservation through education."

National Wildlife Refuge System

The U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE is the principal federal agency charged with protecting and enhancing populations and habitats of more than 700 species of migratory birds. Connect with common and rare birds at 550 National Wildlife Refuges and 37 wetland management districts totaling more than 150 million acres. With programs and facilities for all levels of birders, visit a refuge near you or across the country, and experience bird watching away from home at its best.

The mission of the NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE SYSTEM is to administer a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.
